This fan by Dyson is pretty interesting. It draws air in and amplifies it 15 times, producing an uninterrupted stream of smooth air. Since there are no blades, it means it is safe and easy to clean. Plus the design is aesthetically clean and simple. The technology is used in a range of fan sizes offered by Dyson including table, tower, and pedestal types. We used the table fan in the Smart Home: Green + WIred at the Museum of Science and Industry and it works great. I was surprised how powerful it performs while being visually subtle. Exactly what you want in a fan.

Aesthetically pleasing, but perhaps not as efficient as an exposed-blade fan. The fan in this case is in the base and the air is channeled to outlets around the ring. The air comes out some rather small holes and pulls room air along with it through the ring.
Any idea how much noise these fans generate? The Dyson hand dryers, although wonderfully efficient, sound like a 747 is taking off when in use.
It is beautiful and scuptural. It is like craving a Porsche Hybrid SUV, beautiful and crazy expensive. This would cost as much as a nice refrigerator or a small heating and cooling system I bet. I think in this economy I am more impressed with great less costly design for the masses!
